February 2025 - Newsletter

Kia ora  WWCC Members, sponsors and supporters,

This is our first newsletter for the year, and we say Nau Mai, Haere Mai to all of our WWCC whānau, both new and returning.

Happy New Year to all of you, let's have a wonderful 2025 together!

As we said in our Christmas newsletter, we want to express our thanks for your support on our catchment journey. If you missed our December newsletter, you can read it here.

Your support and commitment makes a real difference to our land, water and people as we continue this journey to ensure the sustainability of our environment.

What's coming in 2025!

We have many plans to keep the momentum going...

  • Sharing past events on the website, so if you were unable to attend, you can see what was covered. Please look on our website to see some of the 2024 events or click here.

  • We will be following our very successful Native Planting day with further events looking at how to improve native planting on our own properties.

  • Cam Speedy - the pest audits at two separate venues covering 8000ha will be taking place in the 2nd week of March and we will follow this up with workshops explaining results.

  • Water Quality will be tested in 9 main waterways, the sites have been determined.

  • Several small water workshops are planned (similar to the woolshed workshops) with consultants to explain what the WWCC catchment is doing, how to read the data, including eDNA (Environmental DNA).

  • Digital Platform - we are very excited that the committee has agreed we will be embarking on a mapping digital platform with My Enviro. There will be access to all members, showing water data, pest audits and workshops with photos to name a few.

  • Two first aid courses - South (Te Akau area) on 27th March at Te Akau Complex and North (Waikaretu area) on 8th April at Nikau Caves and Cafe, please click on these links to register for North, Waikaretu or South, Te Akau

  • Stoney Creek has sponsored WWCC to have uniforms for the staff, this may be extended to become available for purchase for the wider committee and members.

  • Workshops for virtual fencing Halter and Eshepherd.
